They spent a day painting, cleaning and repairing.
Cabela’s pulled together a volunteer group made up of Boyertown Troop 545, Hamburg police, Blue Knights Pa IV Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, Girl Scout Troop 185 and Cabela’s staff on May 11 to help get Olivet Blue Mountain Camp in Hamburg ready for the summer.
Volunteers spent the day repainting the camp pool, replacing boards on the dock, clearing tree trunks and shrubbery from hiking paths, weed whacking, pressure washing the decks at the lodge, cleaning out gutters and fixing a hole in the cabin roof from a tree branch that went through it this past winter.
“In addition to thanking all of these amazing groups who came and worked hard all day, we would like to thank Bedway Produce Co., DiMaio’s Mustard Seed and Rough Ridge as well as many private personal donors for keeping all the groups in service on Saturday fed and hydrated,” Amy Balthaser, Cabela’s special events coordinator, said in a statement.
This will be an annual event. Any Boy Scout Troop, Girl Scout Troop, Cub Pack or first responders that would like to join the volunteer event next year can contact Balthaser at abalthas@basspro.com.
