IMG_4470READING, PA – Olivet Boys & Girls Club is pleased to announce the hiring of Ana J. Cepeda as the Director of the new Olivet Community Builders AmeriCorps program.

The program is part of Olivet’s newly-acquired AmeriCorps grant, which was awarded by PennSERVE: The Governor’s Office of Citizen Service located within the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry. The organization will be using a total of 60 AmeriCorps members, with 30 of them serving during the academic school year and an additional 30 during the 2016 summer months. To reach the 60-volunteer goal, Olivet will be targeting its registered older teen members, recent high school graduates, college students and others from the community for recruitment. Their goal is to attract potential members from the community who are in need of employment training and skills, and who are often overlooked and underserved.

As AmeriCorps Program Director, Ana will be working with host sites to recruit, train, retain, develop and supervise AmeriCorps members.

As a homegrown resident of Reading, Ana is the perfect candidate to run this program for our community. Ana is an alumna of Reading High School and Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania. She brings with her a dynamic résumé, working as a Case Manager in the Attendance Improvement Dropout Prevention Program, a Parent Coordinator for an alternative high school and most recently as a Call Center Representative for UGI Utilities.

It is her love of helping others that influenced her decision to work for Olivet Boys & Girls Club and their AmeriCorps program.

“It’s an honor to be a role model for the AmeriCorps members and the Olivet children,” says Ana of her new positon. “Education and hard work have always been important to me, and I’m dedicated to transferring these values back into the community. Through the AmeriCorps program, I hope to reach a broad range of young adults and help them get into college, be successful and move forward with their careers. This opportunity can enlighten our youth and push them towards more positive futures.”

The program is currently accepting applicants ages 17-24 with a desire to make a difference in the city of Reading. A high school diploma/GED (or commitment of achieving one during service contract) is required. The program will require a commitment of 450 service hours in 38 weeks (12-15 hours per week).

Benefits of the program will include an estimated bi-weekly living stipend of $174.60, an education award of approximately $1515.55 upon completion of the program and career and résumé building opportunities.
