About
21st Century After-School in Pottstown
Since 2004, the district has been a partner with community and
faith-based organizations to provide after-school programs
for students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade. The
involvement of the community and creating a community culture
that embraces and values learning is critical to the education
of youth and to their success in life. The District’s
after-school programs operate in partnership with the Olivet
Boys & Girls Club of Reading and Berks County. Olivet
currently manages three after-school programs at Franklin Elementary, Lincoln Elementary,
and Edgewood Elementary. The Pottstown extensions of Olivet
Boys & Girls Clubs offer reading and math tutoring with
certified teachers, summer academic and camp programs, homework
help, daily meals, sports and recreation, nutrition education,
positive socialization, and special field trips. Other community
partners include Pottstown Area Police Athletic League;
Pottstown Public Library; Hill School; Archdiocese of Philadelphia;
Penn State Cooperative Extension; and the Gallery School
of Pottstown.
Funding partners to support this work include or have include
federal 21st Century Community Learning Centers; Pennsylvania
Education Assistance Program (EAP); the JCPenney After-school
Fund; U.S. Tennis Association; Greater Pottstown Foundation;
Association for Curriculum Development’s Healthy School
Communities Initiative; PA Safe Schools Initiative; Pottstown
Health and Wellness Foundation; and substantial in-kind
support from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. In addition
to these funding sources, the Pottstown School District
is participating in a state-sponsored Sustainability Planning
Process with the Center for Schools and Communities to assist
in the development and writing of a sustainability plan
that will provide guidance and focus on what is possible;
bring new partners on board; and convince investors, to
support after-school in Pottstown.
