The
Mentoring and the Arts Program is a unique program that
combines the personalization of mentoring relationships
with the therapeutic quality of group art activities. The
additional facet of collaborations with schools, families,
and several other community organizations helps MAP to provide
a more holistic approach to working with high-risk students.
The mentoring and the arts components of this program compliment
one another by providing:
• an interesting focus that all students and mentors
can focus on as a way to break the ice in their mentoring
relationships
• insight into a child that may not be noticed in
just a mentoring meeting or just a group art activity, and
• the opportunity for review and reinforcement of
social skills as appropriate in a group or individual environment.
MAP holds two unique group nights on Tuesday and Wednesday
from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Mentors are required to meet individually
outside of group for a minimum of one hour per week.
