Families Make Holidays Special for Olivet Boys & Girls Club Youth
The Oakbrook Club was treated to a special Christmas party this year. Pat and Meg Shields planned and orchestrated the party which was held throughout Olivet Boys & Girls Club’s Oakbrook unit on the evening of December 22. The couple included their own children as well as their friends and family members in volunteering during the party.
Volunteers helped the kids make gingerbread houses and decorate Christmas stockings and cookies, and supervised fun “Minute to Win It” type games including “Ping Pong Peanut Butter”, “Floatacious”, “Merry Fishmas”, and “Face the Cookie.” Santa Claus arrived with plenty of toys for the younger children and small gift cards for the teens.
The Shields’ goal was to make the Olivet Boys & Girls Club kids feel special, and for the volunteers’ children to learn the importance of giving back to the community. “The party was designed as an opportunity for my kids and my friends and their kids to interact with the Club youth and witness firsthand the magic that happens at Olivet Boys & Girls Club,” said Pat.
