The Kiss-A-Pig idea began with a Boys & Girls Club in Tampa, Florida. In 1994, Olivet Boys & Girls Club began a contest of our own! The contest began as a way to raise funds and increase the awareness of the Olivet Boys & Girls Club throughout Reading and Berks County. Since 1994 the Olivet Boys & Girls Club has been able to recruit 152 local business and community leaders to compete for the “honor” of kissing Hatfield, the Vietnamese Pot-Bellied Pig. To date, the Kiss-A-Pig contest has been one of the most successful fundraiser's for the Club, raising over 1 million dollars!!!

Each candidate has the opportunity to run his or her own campaign to raise dollars for the Olivet Boys & Girls Club. Many will hold events all around Reading to help raise money to go towards their own campaign. Others will write letters and send emails to their friends to help support. There will be challenges and competitions to raise the most votes for the honor of kissing Hatfield the Pig. Most importantly the Kiss-A-Pig Campaign raises awareness of the wonderful program that Olivet Boys & Girls Club offers to the community of Reading and Berks County.
